ECAS and G-Mark Product Conformity Support in Dubai & UAE
Selling regulated products in the UAE means proving that they meet technical regulations before they reach the market. Electrical goods, toys, textiles, cosmetics, personal protective equipment and many other categories need a conformity certificate or conformity mark. Two names come up constantly: ECAS, the UAE Conformity Assessment Scheme, and the G-Mark, the GCC conformity mark. BRSM Global helps manufacturers, importers and distributors in Dubai and across the UAE understand which route applies and prepare complete, accurate applications.
Edition status (checked October 2026): ECAS is administered by the UAE Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT) through its Conformity Hub and eServices. The new conformity marks introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 137 of 2024 are now in use. Confirm current product scope and requirements with MoIAT.
What is ECAS and G-Mark Conformity??
The UAE Conformity Assessment Scheme (ECAS) is operated by the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT). It issues UAE conformity certificates for products that are covered by a UAE technical regulation, confirming that they comply with the approved standard specifications. Applications are made through the ministry's digital platform, and published requirements include a valid trade licence, a test report from an accredited laboratory and an online declaration of conformity, plus product-specific items such as labels where the regulation requires them.
The G-Mark is a GCC conformity mark for products covered by GCC technical regulations. The route is generally different from ECAS: a body notified by the GCC Standardization Organization (GSO) assesses the product against the relevant regulation and conformity assessment module, and the mark is applied with the notified body number. The right route depends on the product category and which technical regulation covers it, so classification is the first and most important step. Products sold in Europe use CE marking, covered in our CE Marking Compliance Support page, which is a different system. Our role is document and application support. The certificates themselves are issued by MoIAT or by GSO-notified bodies, not by BRSM Global.
Benefits of ECAS and G-Mark for UAE Businesses
Legal market access
Products covered by a technical regulation need the correct conformity route before they can be imported, sold or distributed in the UAE.
Fewer delays at customs and in the market
Complete, correct applications and labelling reduce rejections, queries and shipment holds.
Right route first time
Early classification avoids wasting money on the wrong certificate or the wrong test report.
Consumer and buyer trust
Conformity certificates reassure retailers, contractors and consumers that products meet safety and quality requirements.
Better supplier and product control
Managing test reports, declarations and labels in one system makes renewals and range extensions easier.
ECAS and G-Mark Requirements
Requirements depend on the product and the technical regulation, but applications commonly involve:
- Product classification: identifying the technical regulation that covers the product and whether the route is ECAS, G-Mark or another scheme.
- Valid UAE trade licence: a valid industrial or trade licence for companies in the UAE, or the appropriate identification for individuals.
- Accredited laboratory test report: tests to the standards named in the regulation by an accredited laboratory, with a validity period set by the regulation.
- Declaration of conformity: an online declaration by the applicant, kept valid for the life of the certificate.
- Labels and instructions: product labels and, where required, instruction manuals in the required languages, including Arabic where specified.
- Product details and ownership: manufacturer and factory details, product images and, for traders, evidence of distributor ownership.
- Notified body assessment for G-Mark: certification by a GSO-notified body for the relevant module, and registration in the GCC tracking system where applicable.
ECAS and G-Mark Process: How BRSM Global Supports Your Product Conformity
Because ECAS certificates are issued by the ministry and G-Mark certificates by notified bodies, our process focuses on getting the right route and a complete application. It follows our usual guidance, implementation, auditing and post-certification stages.
Step 1: Free consultation and product classification
We review your products, markets and supply chain, identify the technical regulation and decide which route applies.
Step 2: Gap analysis
We compare your technical files, test reports, labels and manuals with the current requirements and list what is missing or outdated.
Step 3: Planning and fixed quote
We prepare a plan covering testing, documents and timelines, and a fixed written quote after the gap analysis.
Step 4: Technical file and label preparation
We help you organise documents, check labels and manuals and coordinate with accredited laboratories on testing. This is our 'Guidance' and 'Implementation' stage.
Step 5: Training
Product, quality and import teams learn how the routes work and how to keep declarations and reports up to date.
Step 6: Application readiness review
We check the complete application, from licence to declaration, before it is submitted on the ministry platform or to a notified body.
Step 7: Submission and follow-up support
We support submission and answer queries from the authority or notified body. This is our 'Auditing' stage. For similar preparation principles see our guide to audits.
Step 8: Post-certification support
After issue we support renewals, new models, label changes and regulation updates, which is our 'Post-certification' stage.
Documents Required for ECAS and G-Mark
Common documented information includes:
- Product list with model numbers and technical specifications
- Valid UAE trade or industrial licence
- Accredited laboratory test reports to the required standards
- Declaration of conformity
- Product labels and rating plates for review
- Instruction manuals and safety information in required languages
- Product photographs and packaging
- Manufacturer and factory details
- Distributor ownership or authorisation letters for traders
- Quality management system evidence where the regulation requests it
How Long Does ECAS and G-Mark Take?
Timelines depend on the product category, the availability of valid test reports and, for G-Mark, the notified body process. If compliant test reports and documents are ready, ECAS applications through the ministry platform can be fairly quick, and the published service time for the certificate step is short. Product testing and corrections are normally what take the most time, often several weeks. Always check current service times with the ministry or notified body.
Who Needs ECAS and G-Mark?
This is relevant to a wide range of organisations, including:
- Importers and distributors of electrical and electronic goods
- Manufacturers exporting to the UAE and GCC
- Toy, textile, footwear and children's product suppliers
- Cosmetics, personal protective equipment and household goods traders
- Retailers and e-commerce companies listing regulated products
- Contractors importing regulated equipment for projects
ECAS and G-Mark in Dubai and the UAE
UAE technical regulations are published by MoIAT, which also maintains a list of technical requirements for regulated products and handles ECAS applications through its digital platform. Published fees, service times and document lists are on the ministry website and can change, so we always work from the current version. Official guidance also notes that test reports should come from an accredited laboratory, which links this service to our ISO/IEC 17025 Laboratory Accreditation Support page.
Dubai is a major import and re-export hub, so many consignments arrive for onward distribution across the Gulf. That makes it important to know early whether a product needs a UAE certificate, a GCC G-Mark or neither. We help you compare routes, prepare the technical file and avoid the delays that come from incorrect classification. Where manufacturers also need quality system certification, see ISO 9001 QMS Certification and the practical audit guidance in how to prepare for a Stage 1 and Stage 2 audit.

What is the G-Mark?
A GCC conformity mark for products covered by GCC technical regulations, awarded after assessment by a GSO-notified body.
Is ECAS the same as CE marking?
No. CE marking is a European system. UAE and GCC products follow ECAS and G-Mark routes, although CE and IEC reports may support technical files.
Who issues the certificate?
MoIAT issues ECAS certificates, and GSO-notified bodies certify products for the G-Mark. BRSM Global provides preparation and application support.
